What we check

What the assessment covers

Six areas where small business networks most often have gaps.

Every device on your network

An inventory of the computers, servers, printers, Wi-Fi and network equipment the scan finds, including ones you'd forgotten about.

Missing updates

Computers and equipment missing security updates, or running software their maker no longer supports.

What's open to the internet

Ports and services visible from outside your office that don't need to be.

Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace

Two-step sign-in, administrator accounts and email security settings.

Backups

What your backups cover, where they're kept, and whether anyone has tested a restore.

A ranked fix list

Every finding ranked by risk and explained in plain English, so you know what to fix first.

Is it for you?

Who it's for

You're not sure where you stand

Nobody has ever looked at the whole network, and you'd like to know before something goes wrong.

You're thinking about switching IT providers

You want an outside view of what your current provider is and isn't doing.

How to switch IT providers →

Someone is asking for proof

An insurer, a large client or an auditor wants answers about your security.

What cyber insurers ask →

You've just had a scare

A phishing email got through or an account was taken over, and you want to know what else is exposed.

You want a second opinion

Things seem fine, and you'd like someone independent to confirm it.

How it works

What happens after you ask

  1. 1

    A short call

15 minutes to learn how your office is set up and what worries you most.

  2. 2

    We set up the scan

With your permission, we install a scanning tool on one computer. It runs in the background while everyone keeps working.

  3. 3

    The scan runs

Usually a few business days, depending on the size of your network.

  4. 4

    We walk you through it

A 30-minute call to go through what we found and what to fix first. The written report is yours to keep.

  5. 5

    You decide

Fix it yourself, with your current provider or with us. We remove the scanning tool either way.

What we won't do

  • Pressure you to sign up.
  • Use scare tactics. We'll tell you what's fine as well as what isn't.
  • Leave anything behind. The scanning tool comes off when we're done.
  • Sell your details to anyone.

The report is yours, whatever you decide.

What it often turns up

Common gaps in small business networks

These come up again and again in offices that have never had a formal review. None is unusual, and all of them can be fixed.

Missing updates

Computers, servers and network equipment behind on security fixes.

Why updates matter →

Default passwords

Routers, firewalls, printers and cameras still using the password they shipped with.

Open ports

Services reachable from the internet that only need to work inside the office.

One flat network

Every device on the same network, guest Wi-Fi included, so one infected laptop can reach everything else.

No two-step sign-in

Email, remote access and administrator accounts protected by a password alone.

Two-step sign-in explained →

Untested backups

Backups that are incomplete or have never been restored, so nobody knows whether they'd work after ransomware.

Backup and business continuity →

Questions

About the assessment

Is it really free? What's the catch?

It's free, and there's no obligation to become a client. It's the clearest way we know to show how we work. If we find problems, we'll explain how we'd fix them and what that would cost on our plans. If your network is in good shape, we'll tell you that.

How much of our time does it take?

About 45 minutes in total: a 15-minute call to set it up and a 30-minute call to go through the results. The scan runs in the background over a few business days, and your staff keep working as normal.

What does the report include?

A list of the devices we found, every finding ranked from most to least urgent with a plain-English explanation, and what we'd recommend doing about each one.

Do you need our passwords?

You never email us passwords. With your permission, we install the scanning tool on one of your computers, and we review your Microsoft 365 or Google settings together with whoever manages them.

How is this different from the free Security Check?

The Security Check is a 30-minute conversation, and we don't need access to anything. The assessment goes further: we scan your network and give you a written report. If you're not sure which you need, start with the Security Check.

Will you pressure us to sign up afterward?

No. What happens next is up to you, and the report is yours to keep whatever you decide.

Prefer a quick conversation first? Book a free Security Check.
