Professional firms in Miami
Who we work with here
Brickell is Miami's financial district, and it holds one of the densest clusters of law firms, banks and wealth managers in the Southeast. Downtown adds the county and federal courthouses, and the firms that practice in them.
Many Miami firms serve clients across Latin America and the Caribbean. That means work in more than one language, clients in several time zones, and money that crosses borders. All three make a firm more attractive to attackers and harder to protect with off-the-shelf IT.
Law firms
Litigation, immigration and international practices near the courthouses, all holding privileged files and client funds.
Financial advisers
Wealth managers and family offices in Brickell, many with clients abroad and regulators asking for written security policies.
Accounting and CPA firms
CPA firms handling cross-border tax and bookkeeping, with client financial records that criminals can sell.
Real estate and title firms
Brokerages, title and closing firms in one of the busiest property markets in the country, where every closing is a wire.
Local risks
What goes wrong for firms in Miami
The basics are the same everywhere. These are the problems that are sharper here.
Wire fraud on cross-border payments
International wires are hard to recall once they leave. Firms that move client money abroad are targeted with fake payment instructions, often inside a real email thread and now sometimes by cloned voice.
Hurricane season
From June through November, a storm can close an office for days. Firms that keep files on a server in the building, with backups in the same room, can lose both at once.
Shared buildings and coworking space
Many small Miami firms work from shared floors and coworking offices. A network you share with strangers needs each computer to protect itself, wherever it connects.

The rules
What Florida firms are expected to do
Florida Information Protection Act
Florida law requires businesses to take reasonable measures to protect personal information. After a breach, affected people must generally be told within 30 days, and a breach affecting 500 or more people in Florida must also be reported to the state Attorney General's office.
The Florida Bar
Florida lawyers must make reasonable efforts to prevent unauthorized access to client information. Florida was also the first state to require technology training as part of a lawyer's continuing education.
FTC Safeguards Rule
Tax preparers, accountants and many financial firms must keep a written information security program under federal rules, with specific controls such as multi-factor authentication and encryption.
General information, not legal advice. The rules that apply to your firm depend on the work you do and the data you hold.
Questions
What firms in Miami ask us
Do you support firms with staff or offices outside the US?
Yes. Everything in our plans is delivered remotely, so a colleague in Bogotá or Madrid gets the same protection and the same help desk as the Miami office. We set sign-in rules so that access from abroad is expected where it should be and blocked where it shouldn't.
We're in a shared office in Brickell. Can you still manage our IT?
Yes. In a shared building we secure each computer and each account directly, so your protection doesn't depend on the building's network. That also means it travels with your staff when they work from home.
How do you prepare a Miami firm for hurricane season?
We make sure your files and email are backed up to the cloud and away from the office, test a restore before June, and confirm everyone can work from a laptop at home. If the office closes, the firm doesn't have to.
